Vintage Cakes Have my Heart

It’s kind of funny to think of the wedding industry as one that has trends, but it’s true. From dresses to table settings, to hair and makeup, to colors (remember when tiffany blue was THE COLOR for your wedding day?!) it all changes so quickly, or comes back around. Thankfully, one of those changes that has come around lately is the vintage cake trend.

Vintage cakes are so much fun to make because you have a multitude of options. There’s a million and one options, so let’s set up the dessert table and get to snacking!

With vintage cakes, customization is the name of the game. You can make them white. You can use every color of the rainbow! You can dot them with fruit, writing, do less, or more. They are so customizable, and I love that it’s a trend so many couples have been gravitating towards. It reminds me of the cakes of the 80’s, towering tall, and full of icing. Welcome back, cuties.

I know that DRAMA seems to be the name of the game for vintage cakes, but if you’re looking for a happy medium, sometimes a simpler cake vintage cake with minimal piping and dotted pearls in a vibrant color still packs a punch, and looks effortlessly gorgeous!

I am also absolutely obsessed with the idea of doing a vintage cake that has “naked” sides, but a dramatic bottom and top. Why leave all the fun for the sides? Go crazy on the top!

If color isn’t your thing, never worry. I created a gothic academia cake with the dreamiest black frosting you’ve ever seen. And, to balance things out, a perfect little engagement cake with white frosting and “just engaged” in icing on the top can also play into the trend without going too crazy.

Whatever you do - enjoy! And remember to eat your desserts first!

Alyce
